What's new on FileTools Kit
A dated log of changes to the site, taken from the project's commit history. Small fixes are grouped by day. Dates are in India Standard Time. Maintained by Souren Das.
October 2026
10 October 2026: guides, longer tool articles, and fixes
- Fifteen new guides for common jobs, including getting a PDF under 1 MB or 200 KB for an upload portal, phone photos to a PDF for an online form, page numbers for a thesis, a fresher resume, Wi-Fi QR codes, BMI, and Base64. The full list is on the guides page, now grouped by topic.
- Every tool page now has a longer article underneath it: what each control does, tips, limits, and more questions answered.
- Text Diff: the Ignore Case and Ignore Whitespace options now change the comparison, and the page keeps your original text on screen.
- Dev Tools: new Format JSON and Minify JSON buttons that report where invalid JSON breaks. The regex tester no longer freezes on patterns that can match an empty string.
- Health Calculator: a BMI card with the WHO adult bands and a note on the lower cut-offs used in India. An empty height or weight now shows a prompt instead of a made-up number.
- Image Optimizer: transparent images saved as JPEG get a white background instead of black.
- Markdown Editor: the preview now shows links, numbered lists, tables, and paragraphs correctly, and leaves formatting characters inside code blocks alone.
- FX worksheet: the fee cards are labelled as examples with realistic transfer times, and no longer read like provider recommendations.
- New pages: this changelog and How we test. The About page now explains how the site started and how it is maintained.
8 October 2026: honest copy and crawlable pages
- Each tool URL now serves its own title, description, and heading before JavaScript runs, and unknown addresses return a real 404 page.
- The privacy and cookie policies gained Google's required advertising disclosures and opt-out links, and claims about services the site does not use were removed.
- The in-app policy pages now show the same text as the static pages, so the two copies can no longer drift apart.
- The footer gained a PDF tools column linking every PDF tool.
- Social Studio's Bold, Italic, Double-Struck, and Monospace styles were fixed; some printed broken characters before.
- The Social Studio and Health Calculator articles were rewritten to describe what the pages actually do.
1 and 2 October 2026: full guides and structured data
- Short guide stubs were replaced with full articles, and every guide got its own static page that works without JavaScript.
- Each tool page received its own title and canonical address, and the site added Organization, WebSite, breadcrumb, and tool structured data.
September 2026
25 September 2026: four new PDF tools
- PDF to JPG: export pages as JPG or PNG at three resolutions, as a single image or a ZIP.
- Organize PDF: reorder, rotate, and delete pages with thumbnails.
- Password protect PDF: AES-256 encryption in the browser.
- Page numbers gained position and format options and a Start at number.
- How-to articles and FAQs were added under Merge, Split, JPG to PDF, Page numbers, and Compress PDF.
18 September 2026: compress, JPG to PDF, and page numbers
- New tools: Compress PDF (a light re-save), JPG to PDF, and page numbers, each with its own address, alongside dedicated Merge PDF and Split PDF pages.
- Each tool got its own how-to text under the tool, and the About and contact pages were expanded.
17 September 2026: guide screenshots and titles
- Guides gained screenshots of the real tool screens, clearer titles, and links to related guides.
12 September 2026: new look and ad disclosures
- The site moved to the current warm cream and orange theme, and tool cards switched to local illustrations instead of stock photos.
- The terms, cookie policy, disclaimer, and FAQ were updated to explain the ads on the site.
9 to 11 September 2026: AdSense setup and the logo
- The Google AdSense script and ads.txt were added, and the privacy policy, cookie policy, and About page were updated to describe them.
- The FileTools Kit logo and favicon were added.
3 to 5 September 2026: guides, Resume Builder, and speed
- The first eight guides were published, with static pages for search engines and readers without JavaScript.
- Resume Builder was rebuilt with a full form and twelve PDF layouts.
- Pages were made usable on phones, and the homepage was made lighter so it loads faster.
- Vercel Web Analytics was added and disclosed in the privacy and cookie policies.
1 September 2026: first version
- The project started under its working name, OmniCraft Studio.
